Sioux Falls SD   August 12, 2009 --- Midcontinent Communications has announced that they will launch DOCSIS 3.0 (or D3) technology in Pierre and Ft. Pierre SD on Monday. This is the second stage of the D3 launch for the telecommunications company.

“D3 is the power behind our MidcoNet™ Ultimate and our business Advanced Internet speeds,” said Midcontinent’s Vice President of Technology Jon Pederson. “This will allow up to 50 Mbs download/ 5 Mbs upload capabilities for customers with these products.” In addition, DOCSIS (which stands for Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) provide faster speeds for all customers by bonding or combining several channels into a single connection, he said.  “Our mission has always been to create and deliver high-quality services and the latest technology.  That commitment was behind our investment in DOCSIS 3.0.”

Midcontinent’s first introduction of D3 was in June with launches in Sioux Falls, SD and West Fargo, ND.  This was the first launch of this type of technology in the Upper Midwest region and the news garnered nationwide press in the industry.

“The response from our first launch was remarkable with the greatest praise coming from those who have a real need for speed,” said Tom Simmons, senior vice president of public policy for Midcontinent.  “The addition of DOCSIS 3.0 is just another way to better serve customers – we’re looking forward to future launches just as much we know our customers are.”
