Midcontinent Communications Launches Next Generation of Internet Technology

SIOUX FALLS, SD - Midcontinent Communications has launched wideband Internet to the West Fargo and Sioux Falls service regions. The deployment of DOCSIS 3.0 (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) or D3 technology represents a landmark shift in Internet speeds to both residential and business consumers.

“It’s been our legacy to make sure that the latest and best technologies are available to our customers in the Northern Plains,” said Pat McAdaragh, Midcontinent’s President and CEO. “Launching D3 is just another example of our ongoing plan to bring advanced services like these not only to our larger cities, but also to the smaller communities that we serve.”

Midcontinent’s MidcoNet™ Ultimate speeds will allow up to 50 MB downloads and 5 MB uploads and customers at all service levels (residential and business) will see a speed increase. DOCSIS 3.0 allows for faster Internet speeds by bonding or combining several channels into a single connection. Previously, DOCSIS 3.0 services have been partially launched and then only in larger cities such as Minneapolis and New York.

“The Internet plays a key role in the way we work, live and play, and the launch of Midco D3 gives our customers the technology to gain the full advantage of that experience,” said Tom Simmons,  Midcontinent’s Senior Vice President of Public Policy.  “Whether it’s accessing video and music online, leveling the technology playing field for businesses or being a critical component of economic development, our investment in D3 brings our region to a level that is in the top tier in the nation.”
