What should I do to prepare for the Digital Transition?

If all of your televisions are currently connected to cable, you do not need to make any adjustments for the Digital Transition.

If your televisions are not connected to cable, a satellite service, or a digital tuner/converter box, you will no longer be able to view ANY channels after the transition in February. In some cases, even satellite services will not provide access to local broadcasts after the transition. It is recommended that you take action to prepare your televisions far in advance of the February 17 date  to ensure that you will be able to access your local programming after the transition.

Every TV in your home, garage, outbuilding, etc., will need to be connected. First, check all the TVs in your home. Even if you’re a Midcontinent customer, you may have one or more TVs that are not connected to cable. If you are receiving broadcast signals through a TV antenna or “rabbit ears” on any of your TVs, you will need to be connected to cable or a digital tuner for that TV to function properly after the transition.

You may call Midcontinent Communication to activate or install cable outlets in your home so that all of your TVs receive the digital signal after the transition. You can also lease a Digital Receiver from Midcontinent Communications, which will provide access to the digital broadcasts, plus many other features like the i-guide (interactive programming guide) and Video on Demand.

Other options: Contact a satellite company or purchase a converter box* which will convert the analog signal to digital. You can purchase a converter box at a retail store. A converter box is not the same as a Digital Receiver from Midcontinent. You cannot purchase or lease a converter box from Midcontinent. They are only available at retails stores that sell electronics.

*Some converter boxes will also require some type of antenna.
