Why is Midcontinent upgrading Basic channels to digital?

This is being done to offer additional programming. More information can be carried using digital broadcasting signals than is currently possible with analog technology. The same amount of bandwidth that previously carried a single analog channel has the capacity to carry multiple digital channels and High Definition channels. Digital also provides an improved picture and sound quality for the viewer.
