Belkin/Altiva Wireless Router Upgrade

We’ve recently discovered an issue with the model # F5D7230-4. This router has mis-configured firmware that has resulted in overall network and performance issues. Example of Belkin/Altiva Router: 

Belkin has acknowledged this issue and has created updated firmware for their product. To access this updated firmware, please visit the following site: The following outlines the process for downloading and updating the router firmware: Instructions for Downloading the Firmware:

  1. Type F5D7230-4 in the “Product Support Search” field. (It may pull up multiple results, so please choose “F5D7230-4” from the results page).
  2. Scroll down to the Software & Updates section. Click on F5D7230-4 Firmware Update.
  3. Locate the firmware that corresponds to your routers version number. To download the new version of firmware, click the download icon. download
  4. A window will open that allows you to select the location where you want to save the firmware file. Select any location, but be sure to save the file in a place where you can locate it later. You can name the file anything you want, or use the default name. Note: We suggest saving this to your desktop to make it easy to locate the file. When you have selected the location, click Save.
  5. The download of the firmware is complete. To update the firmware, follow the next steps in Updating the Router’s Firmware.

Instructions for Updating the Firmware:

  1. Open the router's interface page, (Open your web browser and go to, and click on Firmware Update on the left hand menu.
  2. In the Firmware Update page, click Browse. A window will open that allows you to select the location of the firmware update file.
  3. Browse to the firmware file you downloaded. Select the file by double-clicking on the file name.
  4. The Update Firmware box will now display the location and name of the firmware file you just selected. Click Update.
  5. You will be asked if you are sure you want to continue. Click OK.
  6. You will see one more message. This message tells you that the router may not respond for as long as one minute as the firmware is loaded into the router and the router is rebooted. Click OK.
  7. A 60-second countdown will appear on the screen. When the countdown reaches zero, the router’s firmware update will be complete. The router’s home page should appear automatically. If not, type in the router’s address (default = into the address bar of your web browser.
  8. The firmware update is complete.
