The Cost of Cable
Posted: 07/12/2012 10:07 AM (General)

We know how excited our customers are for all the action of the games and top matchups on our sports’ networks; for series like True Blood on HBO and Mad Men on AMC; and of course, for reality shows like The Real Housewives series on Bravo and Duck Dynasty on A&E.

We understand that these programs are important to you and we work diligently to bring your favorite quality programming to you for a fair and reasonable cost.

Cable company pricing is driven primarily by the content providers—cable networks. As their costs increase—whether it is for production of a new series or event, or for live sports programming that they bid on—these providers pass those increases onto cable companies like us and inevitably our subscribers.

We want you to know that we always try to negotiate the best rates possible and although our contracts and pricing from content providers changes and increases as contracts and expire and are renewed throughout the year, we only make price adjustments for your services once a year.

Here’s another way to look at it—how many hours do you watch cable programming per day? If the portion of your Midcontinent bill that goes to cable costs is, for example, $50, divide that by 30 days/month and by 4 hours per day (or whatever would be average). That’s about 42 cents/hour in value.

How does that compare to other sources of entertainment that you and your family enjoy?
